We’ve been so busy working our day jobs, and planning a wedding, that we’ve kind of neglected our blog. That doesn’t mean we haven’t been busy with Rustic Refined RePete though! Here’s one of our favorite projects we completed this summer.
The Distressed Teal Cabinet
This gorgeous cabinet came to us from the designer of our logo believe it or not. He was clearing out his garage, and came across three pieces of furniture that used to be an old bank teller’s desk. Rather than refinishing all three pieces to match, we split it up into three completely different projects. First up was the base cabinet.
The cabinet now lives with a childhood friend of mine. She’s using it as a hot drink station in her kitchen. Talk about a fun conversation piece!
We cleaned the entire cabinet with Scott’s Liquid Gold before starting in on it. The cleaner really conditioned the wood and brought out the beautiful red color you see here.
Next up was Valspar’s Chalky Finish Paint in “Beaded Reticule”. Two coats covered beautifully.
Then we distressed. And distressed some more. This is often the scariest, but most rewarding part of the project. The cabinet looked so nice just freshly painted, I hated to go at with a palm sander…but let me tell you what…distressing it MADE this cabinet. It turned out absolutely beautiful!
The final step was adding hardware. I picked up these knobs from Hobby Lobby a few months back for an antique vanity we refinished. They didn’t fit the build of the vanity, but looked great on this cabinet.
We completed this cabinet rehab in just one weekend. Perfect for DIY beginners or even the most talented furniture rehabbing experts!
